hi! i’m Liana. nice to meet you.
I’m the head honcho here at Firefly & Embers Photography. I work alone, or with other amazing associates and second shooters, depending on your needs.

I wander through life looking for adventure and mischief. I try not to take myself too seriously, seeking out the fun and romance in everything I do. This is why I get so giddy around happy people!

I could list my photography accolades here, or talk your ear off about my equipment but you’d be asleep within seconds, so INSTEAD I’ll tell you all about a few of my favourite things (feel free to sing this Sound of Music-style in your head) and a few weird things about me:

1. I’m a geek. Like, long before it was cool. Obviously, I’m a huge Star Wars fan (who isn’t?! sorry, Trekkies!). I try playing the accordion (poorly). My heroes are Anthony Bourdain, Dave Gorman, John Oliver, and Brian May. If I could marry one celebrity, it would be Weird Al Yankovic.

2. I love colour. The brighter, the better! I’m not afraid of glowing in the dark.

3. I quite like a bit of DIY and am pretty good at plumbing.

4. I used to be in The Black Watch. No, not β€˜The Night’s Watch’ (although that would have been awesome), The Black Watch the infantry battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland. I’m a trained sharpshooter, so I can make bad jokes about shooting sharp photos (see, it’s a good thing you’re not hiring me for my repartee).

5. I love furry creatures, and especially donkeys. Cats are not far behind. And goats. And ducks. And puppies. Oh well, you get it.

6. Here’s another doozie: I used to program robots for NASA in Houston.

7. I’m a pretty good skier. I was a downhill racer, and still teach sometimes.

8. If I could pick only one place to spend my life, it would be Wellington, NZ.

I don’t wander alone. This is Robert, my partner in mischief. Robert’s a photographer too, and a really, really good one at that. We travel the world together, and I’d like to think he hangs around because I’m great company, but I suspect he’s mostly in it for the free food.
